What a great poem this is: Dunkirk Ernie - by Alan Lockerby -------------------------------- They walked for hours, to and fro their blistered feet were burning, Upon the sand. On to La Panne, Did Reg and Dunkirk Ernie. They waited patiently for days until it came their turn - he held the pole upon the mole For Reg did Dunkirk Ernie And as the years did slowly pass, In time we came to learn, he was the lad who saved our Dad. We called him Dunkirk Ernie. Comic heroes were the vogue, But these we would spurn - a bird in the sky, a plane up high - No it's Dunkirk Ernie!
